TeXpress is a visual editor for academic writing. You draft your manuscript in an organized, tabbed workspace - metadata, sections, figures, tables, equations, and references - and TeXpress generates publication-ready LaTeX formatted for the journal you choose. You can start from a blank editor or upload an existing manuscript.

No. The visual editor lets you write and structure your paper without touching LaTeX - bold, italics, lists, equations, tables, and cross-references all have visual controls. LaTeX is generated for you. If you do know LaTeX, you can open the generated source in the manual editor and fine-tune it directly.

Either start from scratch in a blank visual editor, or upload an existing manuscript (Word, PDF, or a .tex file). When you upload, AI parses it into editable sections, figures, tables, equations, and references so you can refine rather than retype. Both paths end the same way: choose a journal and generate journal-ready LaTeX or PDF.

Word documents (.docx), PDFs, and LaTeX source (.tex). TeXpress reads the file, extracts its structure, and loads it into the editor for you to review.

Extraction is a strong starting point, not a finished product. Headings, formatting, equations, and references are auto-detected and can occasionally be misread, especially in complex or unusually formatted documents. Always review each tab before generating LaTeX - references in particular are best-effort and worth double-checking. See our Disclaimer for more.

Each time you upload a manuscript for AI parsing, re-import after manual LaTeX edits, or use "Fix with AI" on a compile error, it uses one extraction from your monthly quota. Writing from scratch, editing, switching journals, and ordinary compiling never use extractions.

Quota resets every calendar month and is tracked per person, not shared across a team:

• Free: 3 extractions/month, up to 5-page documents, 3 projects total (lifetime).
• Pro: 30 extractions/month, up to 30-page documents, 25 projects total.
• Pro + BYOK: the same 30/month platform extractions as Pro, plus your own API key as a fallback once those run out (unmetered by us, billed by your provider, up to 50-page documents on that path), 50 projects total.
• Team: every member individually gets Pro's limits (30/month, 30-page documents, 25 projects) - extractions and project counts are per member, not pooled across the team.
• Institutional: your admin sets each member's monthly extraction allowance (10-100, default 30) and page cap (30-100 pages, default 50) when the plan is provisioned - contact us to arrange this.

A purchased extra project slot (see below) also adds a small permanent bump to your own monthly extraction quota.

A .tex file references image files but doesn't contain the images themselves, so their captions and labels are imported while the images need to be re-uploaded in the Figures tab. Custom macros may also not convert perfectly - check each tab before generating LaTeX.

The Content tab shows a true hierarchical outline. You can add sections, nest subsections several levels deep, reorder them, and indent or outdent - the structure maps directly onto your LaTeX sectioning. An outline sidebar lets you jump to any section.

That greyed-out number is just a visual guide to where a section sits in your outline - it isn't editable and isn't the final numbering. When you generate LaTeX, section numbers (and their exact style - numerals, letters for appendices, etc.) are assigned automatically to match the journal template you've chosen.

Each has its own tab. Equations have a visual equation builder; tables use an Excel-like grid editor with merge, alignment, and formatting; figures and references are managed in their tabs. In your text you insert a cross-reference (like "Fig. 2" or a citation) with the toolbar's PLACE, CITE, and REF buttons - the item itself lives in its own tab, and numbering is applied automatically at compile.

Yes. You can share a project with others for view or edit access, and see when someone else is working in the same project. On the Team plan, every member gets their own workspace and you can share projects across the team.

TeXpress supports major publisher templates including IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, and ACM, with more added over time. Your content is stored in a journal-neutral form, so it isn't tied to any one template.

Yes - that's a core feature. Because your content stays neutral, you can pick a different journal template and regenerate without retyping anything. If a paper is rejected and you're resubmitting elsewhere, you just switch the target and generate again.

Click "Generate LaTeX" to open the manual LaTeX editor, where TeXpress compiles your document to a PDF you can download - along with the full LaTeX source as a ZIP for submission. You can hand-edit the LaTeX there if you want more control.

The compile log points to the problem, and "Fix with AI" can suggest a change to resolve it. Review the diff before accepting - AI fixes are helpful but not guaranteed, and complex errors may still need a manual correction. A successful compile is not a guarantee of journal acceptance; always check your PDF against the journal's current author guidelines.

Yes. The Free plan includes a few AI extractions per month, a handful of projects, all journal templates, and unlimited compiles - enough to try the full workflow. See the Pricing page for what each plan includes.

On the Pro + BYOK plan you can add your own AI provider API key. Once your monthly platform extractions run out, further extractions run on your key - billed directly by your provider under your agreement with them - so you can keep working without waiting for the next cycle.

A one-time $5 purchase adds 1 project slot and 2 extra monthly extractions to your own account, on top of your plan's lifetime project limit. The "Buy 1 slot" button only appears once you've actually used up your plan's project limit (on your profile page and dashboard) - you can buy more than one, one at a time.

Both apply for as long as you're subscribed - a personal Pro/Pro + BYOK subscription, or an active Team/Institutional membership. Your purchase itself is never deleted, but the bonus is tied to having that active coverage: if your subscription lapses (cancelled, or your team/institution's plan ends), the bonus pauses along with everything else in the downgrade - a slot bought on Pro does NOT carry over as an extra on the Free plan (Free stays exactly 3 projects, not 4). The moment you resubscribe, or rejoin an active team, the same purchase's bonus comes back automatically - you never pay for it twice.

It's available to Pro and Pro + BYOK subscribers for their own account, and to a Team or Institutional admin for their own account (it isn't pooled across the team - it only raises the buyer's personal limit, and only while their coverage is active). A Free-plan user, or a team member who isn't an admin and has no personal Pro/Pro + BYOK subscription, doesn't see this option - ask your admin, or subscribe to Pro yourself.

Nothing is ever deleted. If a plan change lowers your project limit below how many active projects you have - your own subscription changing tier, a trial ending, or your Team/Institutional access lapsing (subscription cancelled, or an institutional contract ending) - all of your active projects are moved to Archive automatically, and a banner on your dashboard confirms nothing was removed. From the Archived tab you can restore as many as your new plan allows; the rest stay safely archived until you upgrade, restart your subscription, or archive something else to make room. Any purchased extra project slots pause along with the rest of your subscription's benefits at that point (see "What does buying an extra project slot get me?" above) - they resume automatically once you're subscribed again.

Yes. You can cancel or change your plan at any time from your billing settings. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing period. Billing is handled securely by Stripe.

No. Your manuscript is your intellectual property. We store it securely, process it only to run the features you ask for, and never use it to train AI models - ours or anyone else's. Content sent to our AI providers is used only to fulfill your request. See our Privacy Policy.

Deleting is a two-step process. First archive the project - the archive button on its dashboard card takes you to the project's settings, where you confirm. Archiving hides it from your active projects, and you can restore it anytime from the Archived tab. Archived projects still count toward your plan's project limit. Then, from the Archived tab, you can delete it permanently: this removes all manuscript data (sections, figures, tables, equations, references, uploaded files, and compiled PDFs) and keeps only a small record - the title, journal, and dates - for your account history. Permanent deletion cannot be undone. A deleted project still counts toward your plan's project limit, so deleting does not free up a project slot - only upgrading your plan raises the limit.

You can download your LaTeX source and PDF at any time, and delete projects whenever you like (see "How do I delete a project?" above). Closing your account removes your personal data and content from our active systems, subject to records we're legally required to retain, such as billing history.
